Hands-on, small group instruction

A weeklong, recording intensive for teens in a professional working studio, led by veteran producer/engineer and Tufts University music engineering faculty member Daniel Fox. Limited to just 5 students, participants develop practical studio fundamentals and real-world skills through workshops, structured activities, and critical listening.

Daniel’s 25+ years of teaching experience at the teen and higher education level gives him the ability to make abstract technical concepts visceral and intuitive for students.

Who it’s for

Teens ages 14–18 who are motivated to explore recording, production, and how professional studio sessions work. No formal experience is required, but students should come prepared to engage deeply with music production and recording concepts.

NOTE: This program focuses on the fundamentals of recording and engineering rather than electronic beat production or DJ’ing.

Topics covered include

  • Production decisions and session collaboration

  • Recording techniques for vocals, drums, guitar, and piano

  • Acoustics, studio wiring, and signal flow

  • Pro Tools fundamentals and session workflow

  • Mixing techniques: editing, EQ, compression, effects

Daily schedule

  • 9:30–9:45 Arrival

  • 9:45–12:45 Modules 1 & 2

  • 12:00–12:45 Lunch (packed lunch required)

  • 12:45–3:00 Module 3

  • 3:00–3:30 Reflection, Q&A, listen-back
