Overview

Building on 20 years of experience teaching audio and music tech at the teen and higher education levels, Wondersmith Audio offers lectures, workshops, small group instruction, and 1-on-1 guidance

Founder Dan Fox is able to analyze the needs of an audience or organization in order to design, develop and deliver tailored, engaging learning opportunities for a wide variety of students, including:

  • teen (clients include ZUMIX, Concord Conservatory of Music, Boys & Girls Club, Boston Public Schools, Mildred C Hailey Youth Center)

  • higher ed (clients include Tufts University, Umass Lowell, Worcester State University)

  • adult ed (clients include Audio Engineering Society, WUMB Blues Camps)

  • train the trainer (clients include Teen Empowerment)

  • private Instruction (clients include composers, songwriters, music educators)

His broad understanding of music, audio engineering and sound more generally —  including physics, biology/perception, technology and practical applications — gives him the ability to take otherwise abstract technical concepts and make them visceral and intuitive for his students. He imparts a contagious sense fun to all his presentations and classes via engaging, hands-on demonstrations, interactive activities, and real-world analogies.


Small Group Instruction

Wondersmith Audio offers small group instruction in audio and music production related topics.  Groups can be in person or utilize Zoom web conferencing software.  The format is interactive with content tailored to your questions and goals.  Cost is $25/hr.  Please fill out our brief intake form (no commitment required).  It will help us prioritize topics/classes accordingly.  

Workshops

Whether a series or one-off, workshops are a great way to enhance skills and learning outcomes at your institution. Wondersmith Audio workshops can serve as supplemental educational content for students, and as professional development for faculty. Topics include Live Sound, Podcasting, Music Production, Recording/Mixing, and more.

Private Instruction

If you’re building a project studio you may benefit from guidance on studio design, equipment selection, and configuration. Perhaps you are interested in personalized tutorials on production, recording, or mixing techniques. Other possibilities include guidance in starting up a podcast, recording your own vocals, or mixing your project.
